Dec 8

Today we completed a bell ringer in order to study for the literature test. After taking the test, we read part of the introduction to Winesburg, Ohio and also the first story, "The Book of the Grotesques." For FRIDAY, you need to have the first 44 pages read. For each story, you need to write what the "truth" is and three specific details that support your theory. Tomorrow, Unit 14 sentences are due!

Nov 19

Today, we did skits to review vocab words. We also did a bell ringer, which was to write ONE 15-word sentence about war. After viewing a picture that showed a man leaning on the Vietnam War Memorial, each student had to write EITHER a 10-15 line poem OR a one page short story that includes THREE vocab words to accompany the pictures. DUE FRIDAY.

Nov 15

First, we completed a review story for vocab unit 10. Then, we peer edited for SENTENCE STRUCTURE (run-ons, fragments, wordiness) and GRAMMAR (sub verb agreement, pronoun antecedent agreement, parallelism). Tuesday is more editing with papers and Unit 10 quiz. Wed is library to type corrections. Thursday is paper due date!

We did a focused free-write to start the block. Next, we did a bell ringer. Afterwards, we moved into groups of 3-4 to discuss the bellringer, #2 on page 333, and the story through the criticisms of Feminist and Psychoanalytical. Homework is to complete vocab sentences.

Oct 15

On Monday, we took the Unit 6 vocab quiz and discussed the RP more. Tuesday and Wednesday were both spent at the library. Today, we did a bell ringer to review units 1-3. We did a short review of all six units, then took the quiz. For Monday, read "A Respectable Woman" by Chopin.

We discussed the end of the poem "If I could" and then discussed "The Possessive." We wrote our synonyms for Unit 6. We also BRIEFLY discussed the research paper. Homework: vocab sentences with two sp#6 (1oth grade #2). We go to the library on Thursday and Friday!

We conducted peer feedback on vocab sentences. Then, we wrote letters from Mrs. Ansley to her daughter, using five vocab words, five details, and sentence pattern #4 one time. Finally, we have a blog...to write a paragraph explaining with whom you empathize (Mrs. Slade or Mrs. Ansley), using three vocabulary words.

Today, we started with a bell ringer to begin a review of units 1-3. We then tested over these units. Next, we worked in pods to report out some close reading elements of "Roman Fever." For homework, you need to write your vocabulary sentences, using sentence pattern #4 for three of them. DUE tomorrow!

Sept 18

Today, we skipped the bell ringer (and you all cried...) We used the CPS to decide whether ten vocab sentences were correct in regard to poss vs. plural. Then, we took the Unit 3 quiz. We also used highlighters to indicate which words from Units 1-3 still needed studied. There is a Unit 1-3 TEST on MONDAY!!!! Finally, we discussed "Roman Fever."

Sept 17

Today, we did a bell ringer that had you write sentences with poss vs. plural and a vocab. We put these on the board to review. Then, we discussed "Roman Fever." Essays are due by 7:30 a.m. on Friday!

Today, we did a bell ringer, which we went over on the board, we covered possessive vs. plural rules and "John and I" vs. "John and me" rules. We then modeled how to read the story and takes notes...which you have to do as homework. Don't forget the essay is due tomorrow by 3!

Today, you missed me while I was away! But, you worked on the following assignments: peer edit and correct sentences, read "Roman Fever" and take notes on the two characters as well as ten notations concerning your close reading.

Sept 9

Today, we completed a bell ringer after going over Sp# 2. We put the sentences from the bell ringer on the board. We also made corrections to our vocab sentences and counted to see how many words each sentence contained. Starting next week, no sentence can have less than twelve words. We also discussed essay parts, fatal errors, and the essay due next Thursday. Finally, we analyzed the part of the novel. Don't forget to blog!

Today, we began class with a rockin' bell ringer! We then gave peer feedback on vocabulary sentences, and wrote some on the board (which included three adjectives). Finally, we discussed more of the novel. A Blog has been posted and is due on Thursday.

Today, we completed a bell ringer using vocab words to write Haikus. We then used clickers to work on vocab sentences again. Finally, we began reporting out our close readings.

Today, we completed a bell ringer, then we met with a partner to share. With that same partner, we worked on vocab sent corrections, then wrote mock quiz sentences on the board, which we used clickers to answer. Finally, we finished close readings.

Today, we completed a bell ringer (which can be found on the website.) We then discussed sentence pattern #1 and unit 1 vocabulary. After discussing the rest of chapter one of the novel, each group was assigned a section for "close reading." For homework, students must write 20 vocab sentences using sentence pattern #1 for five of them.
